Lily's Pantry

With Love From Lily provides pet food assistance to homebound elderly and disabled pet owners via local food bank support programs and directly to pet owners in need.

Studies have demonstrated that pet ownership can benefit in many ways.  Pet parents are less likely to suffer from depression and loneliness, have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides, and increased opportunity for exercise, activities and socialization.

Caring for a pet gives a sense of purpose; a reason to get up in the morning, and can help combat depression, one of the most common problems the elderly and disabled face today.

All too often, low-income elderly and disabled people are forced to make a difficult choice, providing for their own basic needs or the needs of their beloved pet.

They will share their food with a pet, compromising their own nutrition, and forgo needed medication to provide for their pet, compromising their own health and well-being.

Eventually, when the pet becomes too much of a burden on their well-being and meager finances, the pet is surrendered to a shelter where he/she faces a very uncertain future.

The goal of this program is goal is to reduce the surrender of pets due to the owner’s financial inability to provide care for the pet.

Benefit to the pet:

•Healthy, pet-appropriate meals = a longer, healthier life

•Stays in their home with their beloved human

•Not surrendered to an overburdened shelter system, where his/her future is very uncertain

Benefit to the pet owner:

•Less strain on limited finances

•Not having to make the decision of caring for their pets or themselves

•A longer, happier, healthier life
